Cultural competence

“Cultural competence… is an umbrella term for the knowledge and skills social workers require in working within the cultural context of clients. It incorporates cultural sensitivity, awareness, responsiveness, humility, safety, and culturally informed practice. Cultural competence is an on-going process of learning, relearning, reflection, and professional growth” (Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers, 2016).
